Simply the Best!

Review by Traci Menge, 2010-09-07

I live in South Florida where it is very, very hot. I use deodorant all over. Many people who are overweight have to. I've used regular secret for many years and have wanted to try their Clinical Strength but was afraid to spend the money. Because of the Vine program I was given the chance to try it and have decided to change to it.

It kept perspiration at bay longer than any other brand I have ever used and the scent of it is wonderful. It goes on creamy even though it calls itself a solid. The only complaint is that it doesn't last as long as a traditional stick solid because it isn't a stick. Keep that in mind when buying it since it is so expensive.

If traditional deodorants haven't worked for you if, like me, you have to use it in more places than you care to admit than I think you'll be as pleased as I am.

Works great -- with a feminine scent (Men beware!)

Review by Debbie Lee Wesselmann, 2010-09-06

In recent years, I've preferred Secret's clear gel deodorants, but this Clinical Strength solid has converted me for several reasons. One, it goes on smooth and almost silky, in contrast to the hard solids. Two, it can go through airport security as a solid, which means it doesn't have to take up valuable space in my quart size bag. And three, it works. Although I prefer the scentless Secret Clinical Strength Sensitive Skin Hypoallergenic Antiperspirant , this one has a light enough scent -- citrus-y with just a hint of floral -- to be my second choice.

In the past, antiperspirants marked "clinical" or "prescription strength" were meant for those suffering from the disorder hyperhidrosis, or profuse sweating, so I was surprised to see it appear on the store shelves a year or two ago. Around this same time, the manufacturer of Secret discontinued its Platinum line, of which I had been a long-time user. I had considered buying this clinical strength, thinking (hoping?) that it was the Platinum line renamed, but the name stopped me -- until recently. Because I had since moved from Secret Platinum to the Flawless Clear line, I decided to test whether the two against each other.

Before I share the results of my highly informal test, I want to point out a critical difference between the products: Flawless Clear is a gel, while Clinical is a semi-solid. The first goes on clear and wet, while the second goes on white and then vanishes as it is absorbed by the skin. The Clinical is softer than the regular, hard solid, and it dispenses the same way the gel does, through two clicks of the bottom wheel that squeezes the antiperspirant through slats.

First, I applied the Clinical on my right armpit and the Flawless on my left. I went out to play tennis in 85 degree heat for two hours. Not surprisingly, neither stopped perspiration entirely, although the Clinical lasted for about ten minutes longer than the Flawless. Both underarms were sticky at the end. I continue to wear the clothing until it dried. About 90 minutes later, I gave my shirt the sniff test: neither smelled bad, although the Flawless had a faint whiff of sweat. The Clinical side smelled clean. The verdict? With strenuous exercise, both were effective as deodorants, although the Clinical was slightly better. Neither kept me completely dry. I could smell the light scent of the Clinical Strength. Athletes will likely go beyond the capabilities of any antiperspirant.

The next day, I did light yard work, again in temperatures in the high 80s and with sticky humidity. The sweat was pouring down my face. The Flawless side (I switched it to the other side) was slightly sticky, while the Clinical was completely dry. The verdict? The Clinical works better in high heat/humidity conditions, but the Flawless was certainly acceptable. You cannot use the antiperspirant on any other part of your body, so it won't keep you from sweating, although it will fight underarm body odor.

The last test I did was probably the most important. The directions instruct you to apply the deodorant at night to let your natural body temperature "activate" it. I was leery of this, since I take showers in the morning. However, I had noticed on previous days that the white solid disappeared fairly quickly into the skin, thus going into my body. So, on a day that didn't matter, I applied it at night, showered the night morning, and did not reapply deodorant. To my surprise, my underarms remained completely dry for the entire day even though it was yet another hot day.

The active ingredient is listed at 20% strength, while the same active ingredient is listed in the Flawless at 16%. Secret Solid, which I used to carry with me on trips until I found the Clinical solid, is listed as 19%, awfully close to "prescription strength."

If you don't suffer from heavy underarm perspiration, I see no reason to switch to this stronger version unless you want a semi-solid. I recommend this product for those who do sweat a lot under their arms or who want a little extra protection in situations (high anxiety days, under television lights, etc.) where they might perspire more freely than usual, or for frequent fliers who want to streamline their cosmetics in carry-on luggage.

Decent, but...

Review by John A. Lefcourte, 2010-09-06

I got this because it was free to me as a Vine reviewer, because my wife uses it and because I have a problem with sensitive skin and rashes so I thought that I would try a woman's product. It works well, so far, after limited use, BUT: I don't like the scent, it is too strong, and I don't like the idea of applying it the night before ( I can't remember to do it and it and the concept worries me, am I sealing off my pores for that long a time?). Given the cost, as other reviewers have noted, I believe that there are better products to use.

Light and Fresh Scent is my Favorite!

Review by AuburnTygr, 2010-09-04

Secret Clinical Strength Deodorant works as advertised. I've tried the Sport Fragrance and couldn't use because of the scent, much to strong for my taste and allergies. This Light and Fresh Scent is perfect.
We have had over two months of 90+ temperatures in the south with humidity making it feel over 100 degrees. Even in the extreme heat I had no underarm odors or wetness when working outside.
It works with teen odors too! Many days I've picked my teen up from school and immediately smelled that sweaty underarm odor after getting in the car. Not so with this deodorant. My teen found it and asked to try it. I haven't seen it since but I don't mind because I haven't had to deal with the teen underarm odor either.
My family really likes this deodorant and we will keep using.

Great scent!

Review by Denise Whitcome, 2010-09-04

Oh, I like this scent. I've tried the Secret Clinical in the Sport scent and thought it rather masculine, but this is feminine and a little fruity. I rated the product a 4 though, because I don't think that it measures up to its advertising in effectiveness.
